Our RE Vision

At St Patricks, Religious Education is at the core of our curriculum and school life. We follow the national Religious Education Directory (RED) titled "To Know You More Clearly", provided by the Catholic Education Service on behalf of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference. Our goal is to help every child deepen their knowledge of the Catholic faith, grow in spiritual literacy, and understand how faith guides our actions in the modern world.

The Curriculum Structure

The RED uses a spiral curriculum structure. This means pupils revisit key themes each year with growing theological depth. Learning is divided across six core curriculum branches (one for each half-term):

• Creation and Covenant

• Prophecy and Promise

• Galilee to Jerusalem

• Desert to Garden

• To the Ends of the Earth

• Dialogue and Encounter

How We Learn: Lenses and Skills

Lessons are designed around two main approaches to ensure a rich, academic, and engaging experience:

• Knowledge Lenses: Children explore scripture and tradition through four lenses—Hear, Believe, Celebrate, and Live.

• Ways of Knowing: Pupils develop critical thinking skills by learning how to Understand the material, Discern its meaning, and Respond personally through prayer, art, or actions.

We see the teaching of RE as an immersive journey where we take every opportunity to engage our pupils and encourage creativity. We plan a range of activities for our children including:

          *Whole class discussions

          *Drama

          *Art

          *Food technology

          *Recorder playing in UKS2

         *Half termly visits to the local care home in LKS2

          *Visits from CAFOD

          *Themed days e.g. Pentecost

          *Written pieces

          *Visits from other faith companies/parents and carers

          *Godly Play – delivered by UKS2 Prayer Warriors

          *Trips to Other Faith places in KS1

          *Performances in school and church

          *Visits to church

          *Members of our community and local parish visiting

          *Joining in with charitable events

Knowledge Organisers 

We use knowledge organisers in RE to condense each topic's essential facts, key questions and key vocabulary onto a single, easy-to-read page that supports memory retention. 

 

Our RE school calendar

Below is a calendar which we will follow for the academic year 2026-2027. It includes Masses, Class Saint feast days, Religious special days that we and other faiths celebrate, Virtues, the RED topic we are looking at, the Prayer Warriors Godly Play story which links to the RED topics, Visitors and school trips, supporting charities e.g. CAFOD and the shoebox appeal, dates for our swap shop, themed days and planned Liturgies and performances in school and at church.
