Hedgehogs

A very warm welcome to Hedgehogs class page!

In our classroom your children will be taught by Mrs Verdon-Smith, Mrs Craig, Mrs Foster and Mrs Thompson and we have lots of exciting things planned!

Krysha Caterer is our link governor so she will be joining us at various points throughout the year.

We will all be working hard all year and appreciate the support of all the parents in developing your children's learning at home!

Many thanks!

Each week we will be choosing a star of the week. Here are the qualities we will be looking out for:

  • respectful
  • a good team worker
  • hard working
  • good listener
  • polite
  • being a kind friend

I wonder who will get it next?

We also have a WOW wall in our classroom. Each week we pick 3 new children to be on the wow wall. You will receive a letter notifying you when it is your child's turn. Here you need to send your child into school with things that are special to them that they can share with their peers. This could be a certificate, a bus ticket, a medal, a photograph, a shell from your holiday etc.

The homework that we set in the class will primarily be online learning on Bug Club and Mathletics. Your child will also be given a new reading book each Friday. This needs to be returned on a Thursday for it to be changed.

Half Termly Parent Overview

Each half term we will send home a curriculum overview of some of the objectives we will be focusing on in the different areas of learning with a learning challenge included.

Our topic for Autumn 2 is 'All Aboard'.

Here are some of the books we will look at:

Our topic for Spring 1 is 'Once Upon a Time'.

Here are some of the books we will look at:

In phonics we will continue to learn our phase 2 sounds and start to look at phase 3 sounds which we call phonemes. We will work hard to segment and blend simple high frequency words and practice writing in cursive handwriting.

In Numeracy we will use lots of hands on resources, like numicon, to learn about addition, subtraction, place value and number recognition and then will move onto weight, capacity, height and length.

Our topics in RE this half term are:

*Celebrating

*Gathering

We are excited to get to know your children even better and to see how they develop this term!
